The demand for local food has never been stronger, with consumers applying pressure on retail, institutional, and foodservice operators to have an increase of local options available. Agri-business and farms in the South Central Ontario Region are in an advantageous spot to meet this demand.

The geography of SCOR is located on the sand plains.  Also, the region is home to one of the mildest climates in Canada making it a great growing environment for most crops.

The region is home to many agricultural supports and crop specialists.  Including post-secondary institutions like Western University, the University of Guelph, Fanshawe College and Conestoga College that have programs focusing on agricultural innovation and research.

The region is also home to many emerging crops such as grape growers for wine, lavender, and cannabis to name a few.
