Strengthening Southwestern Ontario Through Partnership and Shared Leadership

Over the past several weeks, our team has had the opportunity to attend several annual general meetings and community events across Southwestern Ontario, each highlighting the power of partnerships and collective action.


Celebrating 40 Years of the Elgin Business Resource Centre


The 40th Annual General Meeting of the Elgin Business Resource Centre (EBRC) was a celebration of four decades of supporting entrepreneurs and strengthening local businesses throughout Elgin County.


During the event, Elgin-St. Thomas-London South Member of Parliament Andrew Lawton spoke about the importance of bringing businesses together through collaboration and cross-marketing initiatives that benefit the entire community. His remarks reinforced a principle that guides SCOR EDC's work every day. When communities work together, everyone benefits.

As a regional organization serving Elgin, Norfolk, Brant, Oxford, and Middlesex counties, SCOR EDC is proud to champion partnerships that strengthen our local economies and congratulate EBRC on 40 years of lasting impact.


Investing in Rural Leadership Across Ontario


SCOR EDC was also pleased to attend the Rural Ontario Institute's Annual General Meeting at the Guelph Arboretum.


MPP Paul Vickers, Parliamentary Assistant to the Minister of Agriculture, Food and Agribusiness, spoke about the important role the Rural Ontario Institute plays in supporting rural communities through leadership development, research, knowledge sharing, and programs such as the Advanced Agricultural Leadership Program.

Since its establishment in 2010, the Rural Ontario Institute has helped build stronger leaders and more resilient communities across rural and northern Ontario. SCOR EDC is proud to partner with organizations that invest in people and help position rural communities for long-term success.


Understanding Workforce Challenges in a Changing Economy


The Elgin-Middlesex-Oxford Workforce Planning & Development Board's Annual General Meeting provided valuable insight into some of the most significant issues affecting today's labour market.


Executive Director Petrusia Hontar presented an informative analysis of how recent immigration policies are influencing the economic, social, and cultural landscape throughout the region. The event also featured thoughtful discussions on the growing role of artificial intelligence and its potential impact on employment opportunities and workforce development.


As workforce needs continue to evolve, collaboration between employers, educational institutions, government, and community organizations becomes increasingly important. SCOR EDC is proud to support the Workforce Planning & Development Board and its ongoing efforts to strengthen regional workforce development.


Sharing Ideas for Vibrant Downtowns


Creating thriving downtowns is about more than attracting visitors. It is about fostering communities where businesses, residents, and visitors all want to spend time.

Members of SCOR EDC's Resource Advisory Committee recently toured Downtown Tillsonburg with Executive Director Mark Renaud of the Downtown Tillsonburg BIA. During the tour, Renaud shared the strategies and initiatives that have helped make Tillsonburg's downtown one of Ontario's most vibrant commercial districts.


These knowledge-sharing sessions are an important part of SCOR EDC's commitment to helping municipal partners learn from one another, share best practices, and make the most of available resources. By connecting communities and encouraging collaboration, we help create stronger, more resilient regions.
